ARGENTINA COWHIDES
It's generally accepted knowledge that the best leather and cowhide rugs in the world are from Argentina. I have an established relationship with the finest tannery in all of Argentina and one of the finest in the world, in which enables me to have full access to the finest cowhides ever available.
MY STORY?
I am an American now living in Buenos Aires and have discovered my love for leather and cow skins. After living in Argentina for a while, I realized that cowhide rugs are so beautiful and intriguing. I decided that everyone should have a cowhide rug in their home. After working for GUCCI America for many years, I have fine-tuned my eye for quality leather and products. Let me tell you, there are many different levels of quality here in Argentina when it comes to cowhide rugs with hair! I spent 2 weeks going from tannery-after-tannery with the ultimate quest to find the best top-quality rugs. You can find poor quality rugs in a handful of places and pay about the same price for a top quality rug if you do not have connections or know where to look. After visiting about 20 different tanneries in about 4 different Provinces of Argentina, I have finally found the best! You can notice immediately the difference. Everything about the rugs are different. I believe that if you are going to spend the money on a cowhide rug, you might as well purchase the best.
WHY "MY" COW RUGS?
1) The cows in Argentina eat only grass and there are minimal chemicals that they are fed, but which have the least negative effects on the body and environment. As well, all cows in Argentina are open range.
2) My tannery only uses a blue chromium treatment to the skins. This is the only treatment out there that will truly ensure the lifetime of the hairs to remain on your cowhide rug.
3) The quality of a cowhide rug all depends on the time and method of treatment used on the skins. My tannery specializes in their precise technique of treating the skin, and as well uses the best products known to man to treat, and has the least effect on the environment. Their method of treatment is the most “enviromentally-friendly” treatment out there and is also very important for the environment in your home.
4) The edge of the rug is perfectly cut. I can not tell you how many out there look like they were cut by a 4th grader kid. My tannery has the most precise cut I have ever witnessed. As well, the overall shape is a beautiful shape and has no irregular curves ensuring a elegant look. The difference between a good cowhide rug and a poor one is that a good one, you will never notice the cut edges when on the floor. My tannery has a certain type of cutting technique that makes the hairs hang over the edge, in order to never expose the bottom.
5) My tannery is the most sought out from the top fashion-houses in the world; most being the designers from Italy and France. Aside from that, the tannery has been operating for 80 years and is the largest exporter from Argentina to around the world. Not only do they work with cowhides, but they specialize in sheep, fox, rabbit, and Napa leather.
6) How can you tell the difference between a poor quality skin and a top quality skin? The touch! When you touch the bottom of the cowhide rug, if you squeeze the rug in your hand, it feels as light and as soft as a blanket. As soon as you let go, it immediately falls back into the regular shape. You can squeeze it like a blanket! Poor quality rugs are dry and stiff to the touch. When you squeeze a poor quality or “typical cowhide”, it is like cardboard. In addition, my rugs will never curl up along the edges, unlike the typical poor quality rugs that are sold off as good quality and sold for the same price as mine!
7) The look of the hairs are extremely shiny. You can notice the shine of the hairs from a distance. A poor quality cowhide rug does not have much shine. My rugs have the least amount of natural scars. There will be no areas with missing hairs nor will it have any noticeable marks, as the tannery would never expect that skin from a farm in the first place.
8) You will never have to worry about any wear and tear showing. If you purchase a poor quality cowhide rug, if someone keeps walking on the corners and flips the corner, after a while, due to the stiffness, the corners will start to stay flipped-up and won’t look like how you bought it. My cowhide rugs will never have that problem. That is because of how soft the hide underneath is, due to the best method and products used to treat it.
9) Due to the high-level of treatment, the hairs will NEVER fall out and will last you a lifetime!!

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW! Not one cowhide is the same. I have posted some sample photos of the general look of the rugs I have available. I will do everything possible, along with the owner of the tannery, to find the closest as can be to match the exact marks and print as the photo. PRODUCT CARE FOR COWHIDES!
Cow hides are very easily cared for. Other than periodic vacuuming, simple soap and water on a sponge is generally all that any of our cowhide rugs or other cow hide products will ever need. Steam cleaning your cowhide rug will also work if one makes certain not to put too much water on the hide. The key is not to let cowhides get soaking wet.
As with any area rug, spraying your cow hide rug with a "Scotch Guard" type product will help keep it clean. However, there are much better products on the market than "Scotch "Guard". Check with a local carpet cleaner for suggestions. Stain Master"s makes a very good product that can probably be found most everywhere.
